Essie – Mini-Haul

I had never purchased nor tried an Essie polish before now.  There are reasons behind that: Essie polishes are more expensive than most brands, while the bottles hold less product, and the colors seem rather ordinary to me.  Oh, and they’re hard to find.  At the same time, I *hear* they wear very well and the formula is among the best.  I figured they were worth a try, so while at Ulta recently, here’s what I picked up.

Exotic Liras appeared to be a muted hot pink; and although pretty, it is a light red in most lighting.  The formula is very nice and smooth; however, the brush is flared out at the tip and had hairs sticking out in all directions, making application very difficult.  Thigh High is a darkened red with a gorgeous shimmer.  Thankfully, the brush on this one had no problems whatsoever.  Unfortunately, the formula was horrible; very thick, almost lumpy, which made it difficult to apply thin, even coats.

I also found a four pack of Essie’s Fall 2008 Guilty Pleasures collection.  Here’s the best part though: being last years collection, the four pack cost only $4.95!  The catch: all the brushes on these mini-bottles were flared or curved, not good.  Rock Star Skinny is a darkened brown-red color with very subtle shimmer; I don’t care for this color, it looks flat and plain.  It’s Genius is a medium mauve-purple shade, with silvery shimmer; this is the one stand out shade, just love it.  Bold + Beautiful is a burgundy creme polish; pretty standard, we’ve all seen it before.  Sexy Divide is a blackened purple, with slight purple shimmer; it is very unique and great for Fall.

Hmmm…  The formula was hit or miss depending on the shade.  The quality of the brushes was poor.  The wear time was about average.  I’d have to say I wasn’t impressed with Essie polishes.  What do you guys think?  Did I just get a bunch of duds?

Zoya – Mini Haul

I got my package from Zoya, and immediately ripped it open!  I recieved: Roxy, a purple glitter; Moxie, a cool-tone deep hot pink creme; Blair, a blackened deep red shimmer; Loretta, a sheer milky pink; and Celine (not pictured), a warm-toned hot pink creme.  I’m upset: I didn’t order Celine, I ordered Drew!  Moxie and Celine are practically duplicates of eachother!  The number on my invoice matches the color Celine, so the mix-up is likely user-error; Valerie should not be ordering online so late at night with so many colors to choose from.  Oh well, I’ll just have to place another order to get Drew, and a couple others I’ve had my eye on.  I will be wearing these very soon and posting some pictures of them!  Take a look at some bottle shots in the meantime!

P.S. I apologize in advance, but won’t be showing photos of Celine because it does not look good on me.  I have already given it to my warm-complexioned mother, Loretta.

Sally Hansen – Mini Haul

I’ve really gotta stop going to Target!  So last time I found myself strolling through the nail polish section, I picked up a couple by Sally Hansen.  Plum Power is a beautiful deep plum, it has a great shimmer of purple and blue.  Blazing Blue is a midnight blue with strong blue shimmer that keeps it from looking black.  These are both great colors; can’t wait to use them!

New York Color – Mini Haul

After spotting an insane glitter polish on the tips of one of my girlfriends, I decided to go out and get my very own bottle.  So off to Target I went, and discovered that New York Color nail polish cost only .94 cents a bottle!  Needless to say, I picked up more than just the one polish.

Starry Silver Glitter is a clear polish, with two types of glitter: small rainbow-holographic glitter, and big light pink and bright blue hexagonal glitter.  Purple Pizzazz is a dark purple polish with a violet-blue flash.

Polyester Pink is a cool pastel pink creme, very pretty and sweet.  Love Letters is a very sheer milky pink creme that reminded me of O.P.I. Bubble Bath.

I also bought a couple polishes from N.Y.C.’s quick-dry line, “In a New York Color Minute.”  Penn Station is a shimmery cool berry-red shade, very flattering and classy.  East Village is a shimmery teal shade; this one is so sheer it took 4 coats to be opaque.

I just love N.Y.C.’s  color selection, with trendy shades and funky glitters!  I feel that some of these could use some formula improvement; namely streaking and sheerness.  However, at .94 cents, who can complain?  The price can’t be beat!

Amethyst Mist by Cover Girl

Hello Glitter!  I LOVE the mixed-size glitter as seen in N.Y.C. Starry Silver glitter; so when I saw Amethyst Mist by Cover Girl, I snatched up the very last bottle!  The polish has a very cool toned feel to it, even though it packs in so many different colors.  The base is clear with the slightest hint of purple, and it has tons of small and large holographic glitters suspended in it.  The small glitter seem to stay between blue and green tones; while the large glitters range between pink, blue, green, gold and purple.  This is a great understated glitter polish that would be great for layering!
